How we test

Every comparative test on British Skincare Journal follows the same procedure. We buy every product anonymously at regular retail, at full price, from our own budget. No manufacturer is informed of a test, sends samples or sees results before publication. Laboratory measurements are carried out in line with recognised standards such as ISO 22716 wherever the category allows it, and the criteria are fixed in writing before the first product is opened. The complete methodology is detailed on our How We Test page.

Who signs off

No ranking is published without the written sign-off of our Scientific Advisory Panel, whose members and credentials appear on every test report. The panel checks the methodology, the measurements and every verdict sentence against the data.

Independence

We accept no sponsored placements, no free samples and no payment for rankings. Product links point to neutral retailers; whether a reader buys anything changes nothing about a verdict.

Corrections

Careful editing does not make us infallible. Substantiated corrections reach us via our contact page and are applied promptly, with a note on the article where the change is material.
